Chico Feo

If you've ever been to Folly Beach, about 20 minutes southeast of Charleston, you'll quickly realize that it is Charleston's laid-back beach. There's no pretense on Folly. You might find a hippie in a tie-dyed t-shirt riding his bicycle on the hard-packed and wide sandy beach.  The local food and sundries market, Bert's, is open 24/7 and despite its diminuitive size, you can literally find everythig there from bug spray and hot dogs to a fine wine collection and organic foods. Bert's has free coffee and I'll frequently grab a free cup, leave a tip in the cofee tip jar and go stroll the beach for a little exercise and vitamin D therapy.

Another place you'll find me from time to time is at the super chill outdoor bar and eaterie, Chick Feo at 122. E. Ashley Ave.  Don't go if it's raining because they close up shop as 95% of the space is uncovered. Chico Feo is Spanish and tranlates to Ugly Boy but I'll tell you right now, there is nothing ugly about Chico Feo's delectable tacos, Num Pang Cambodian pork sandwich or Cuban beans and rice topped with fresh Mahi Mahi.  And while they don't serve liquor, their beer and cider selection on draft and in cans is impressive.

What I like most about Chico Feo, however, is the vibe. Cool people from all over the US and world congregating under a canopy of Live Oaks, eating great food and enjoying cold beers and ciders.  And all this just one block from one of Charleston's best beaches. I've never met a stranger at Chico Feo.

Next time I'm showing you your dream getaway or forever house on Folly Beach, remind me to pull into Chico Feo. First taco and beer is one me. Then you're on your own.  I'm fairly certain you'll make it a regular stop, particularly if you're the type that prefer flip flops over Gucci loafers.  And don't worry, if loafers or heels are more your speed, there are a plethora of amazing choices in downtown Charleston. #charlestonrealesate #follybeachhomes #chicofeo #berts
